I absolutely love a good dip! And this greek yogurt guacamole is by far one of my faves (especially when it’s made right – no bland, watery guac here!). The addition of Greek yogurt makes it super creamy, plus it adds a boost of protein. When paired with the heart-healthy fats of avocados, it makes for the most satisfying snack or dip. Whip it up in under 10 minutes and enjoy what might just be the most delicious guacamole recipe you’ve ever tried.

Ok confession time. When it comes to dips, the chips or crackers are really just a vehicle for the goods. Anyone else? Haha. And the dietitian in me loves it when I find a way to make my favorites with a little extra nutrition boost (as long as it doesn’t sacrifice the flavor or satisfaction).

Enter this insanely creamy and flavor packed variation of guacamole. The star ingredient here (well besides avocados obviously) is Greek yogurt. A staple I always have on hand.

(PS – if you want a full list of my realistic dietitian staples, download my Kitchen Staples Checklist HERE!)

I’ve been asked before whether guacamole has protein. While traditional guac would have little to none, the Greek yogurt in this version makes it a higher protein version (almost 25 grams of protein per cup of Greek yogurt!)

One of my favorite parts of working with my clients is showing them that nutrition doesn’t have to be boring or complicated. Seriously, it’s about enjoying foods you love, whether that’s a big bowl of guacamole with chips or a veggie-packed salad. It’s all about tuning into what feels amazing for YOU!

Having snacks prepped and on hand is one of my best hacks for doing this, and this guac is perfect for that. Make a batch on the weekend, and you’ve got a delicious, ready-to-go snack for the week. Check out these other meal prep snack options for more ideas to keep your snack game strong!

Ok let’s dive into the recipe

Ingredients for 5 Minute Guacamole Dip with Greek Yogurt in small white bowls, including avocados, lime juice, lemon juice, Greek yogurt, diced tomato, diced red onion, chopped cilantro, salt and pepper

Here’s What You Need

Avocados: You simply cannot have guac without avocados. They provide the signature taste and texture of this beloved dip.

Lime & Lemon Juice: Yes, BOTH! This is my hack I learned from a friend years ago. While traditional guacamole usually has just lime, the addition of lemon adds a touch of sweetness that balances out the tang and just makes for the most delish fresh flavor!

Plain Greek Yogurt: This is the game changer here! I like to use at least 2-5% Greek yogurt for a smoother, less tangy flavor.

Roma Tomato: While some guacamole recipes omit tomatoes, I like to add them for added freshness, plus a bit of extra color and flavor.

Red Onion: I love the burst of intense flavor you get when you bite into a piece of red onion. If you prefer without, feel free to omit!

Cilantro: Another controversial ingredient. I used to be one of the cilantro haters but it has really grown on me over the years. It is so fresh, but again, if it’s not for you leave it out.

Salt & Pepper: Essential for enhancing the overall flavor of the dip.

Chips, Crackers, or Veggies: Perfect for scooping up this tasty guacamole.

Flaky Salt: An optional ingredient but I definitely recommend including it! It adds a nice little crunch and the extra bit of salt enhances all of the other flavors!

Common Mistakes to Avoid

Overly Chunky Guacamole: If you prefer a smoother guac, mash the avocados more thoroughly before adding the other ingredients. You could even use a food processor to speed this up. Pulse rather than continuously blend in the food processor if you prefer to keep some chunks.

Bland Flavor: Don’t’ be afraid of salt! Salt is key to enhancing all other flavors. You can also add more lime or lemon juice until you get the taste you’re after.

Watery Guacamole: To avoid a watery dip, remove the seeds and excess juice from the tomatoes before adding them to the guacamole.

Guacamole Turning Brown: To keep your guacamole looking fresh, squeeze extra lemon or lime juice over the top and cover with plastic wrap, pressing it directly against the surface before storing.

Nutritional Benefits (Nutrition by Addition)

Before I dive into this quick and tasty guacamole, I want to share a little about intuitive eating and how enjoying a delicious guacamole dip fits perfectly into this practice.

Over the years, diet culture has had its fair share of opinions about dips, especially guacamole. Mainly that they’re too high in fat or that you should only eat them in small amounts with raw veggies instead of chips.

This is simply not the case! Fat is essential for the absorption of certain vitamins (A,D,E and K), AND it is one of the biggest factors that leaves us feeling not just full, but satisfied after eating. For this reason, including dietary fats in our meals and snacks can actually decrease the likelihood of feeling out of control around food, or having that constant urge to keep grazing after eating.

And as far as how you eat it, some days you might want to enjoy your guacamole with classic tortilla chips, scooping up all that creamy goodness. Other days, you might feel like pairing it with fresh veggies or using it as a topping on your favorite tacos. (Psst – If you haven’t tried it on tacos, it’s a must! It adds the perfect touch to these Roasted Cauliflower Chickpea Tacos)

So, when it comes to labeling this guacamole recipes as healthy or not, it’s not just about the nutrition, but how it makes you feel, and having the freedom to enjoy it as you like, without guilt.

Here are some of the delicious nutrients you’ll be getting out of this creamy, tangy guacamole dip:

Avocados: Avocados are a fantastic source of nourishing fats, which help support heart health and keep you feeling full and satisfied. They’re also packed with fiber, vitamins C, E, K, and B-6, and minerals like potassium.

Greek Yogurt: Greek yogurt adds a creamy texture and a protein boost (about 25g/cup!) to the guacamole. It’s also rich in probiotics, which support gut health and digestion.

Tomatoes: Tomatoes are full of antioxidants, including vitamin C and lycopene, which help protect your cells from damage and support your immune system.

Cilantro: Cilantro provides a fresh burst of flavor and is rich in vitamins A, C, and K, as well as antioxidants that support overall health.

Red Onion: Red onion adds a bit of bite and sharpness to the guac, along with antioxidants like quercetin, which have anti-inflammatory properties.
