The best part? It takes less than 5 minutes to land this light, creamy, flavorful dip on your plate. Also, it’s super customizable. This is a base recipe of sorts, flavorful enough just as is, but neutral enough that you can take it in so many directions. Keep it classic and herby, or add a little sweet twist depending on what you’re serving it with. (We’ll get to all the topping ideas in a second!)

A bowl of plain cottage cheese with small curds, viewed from above, on a light pink textured surface.

Let’s talk about cottage cheese for a sec…

I know there can be a bit of a love hate with Cottage cheese. And although it’s having a bit of a moment in the spotlight right now, I’ve always been a fan of this incredibly versatile food! It’s an instant savoury flavor booster, and an instant protein.

Just one cup packs over 25 grams of protein, along with calcium, B12, and other good-for-you nutrients. It’s like the quiet overachiever in the fridge—always there, always delivering, but never asking for credit.

And if you’re not a fan of the texture of cottage cheese, you will be mind blown at how it transforms when whipped up in the food processor. No more chunks, just smooth and creamy goodness ready to be enjoyed!

Here’s how easy it is to make

Close-up of cottage cheese in a food processor with a metal blade attachment, ready to be blended. The food processor sits on a light pink surface.

Add your cottage cheese to a food processor. (Pro tip: Use 2% or full-fat cottage cheese for that ultra-rich, extra luscious finish.)

A spoon holding thick, creamy white yogurt above an open food processor bowl filled with the same yogurt mixture.

Whip that dip good! Blend on high for 30–60 seconds until it’s completely smooth, stopping halfway through to scrape down the sides and catch any sneaky lumps hiding out. Once smooth, do not keep blending as it can thin out and become a bit watery if over-blended (I made that mistake my first time testing it).

A bowl of creamy dip garnished with basil and chili flakes sits next to a plate with two slices of bread spread with the dip. A platter of fresh vegetables, including snap peas, carrots, and radishes, is nearby.

Serve it up. Yep, that’s it! It’s ready to serve. Note that it will thicken as it sits in the fridge so if you’re after a thicker texture (especially if using it for a spread), chill for a bit before serving.

How to Top This Dip

The base recipe is beautifully simple, but the magic really happens when you play around with it. Think of it like a choose-your-own-flavor adventure:

Sweet twist: Add a drizzle of honey or swirl in some berry jam—perfect for toast, waffles, or a fruit dip for snacky little hands.

Citrusy: Stir in a squeeze of lemon or lime juice + a little zest for a fresh, bright flavor that pairs perfectly with crunchy crudités.

Spicy: Whip in some hot honey. It adds a little kick that takes this recipe from everyday to whoa, what is this? in seconds. If you don’t have it, just add a sprinkle of chili flakes + honey and you’ve got a similar vibe.

Herby: Blend some fresh herbs right in, or sprinkle on top. I like chopped chives and dill for a ranch-y vibe, or something simple like fresh dill.

You can also play around with other savory toppings like garlic oil, za’atar, chili crisp oil. Honestly, once you start, you won’t want to stop.

How to Serve it

This dip/spread/sauce situation is endlessly versatile. Here are a few of my go-to ways to use it:

Baguette slices or sourdough toast. Warm, crusty bread + cold, creamy spread = heaven.

Veggies like garden carrots, radishes, snap peas, and mini cucumbers, a crisp, crunchy dream team.

Plain potato chips (I like Ruffles!). Not fancy, but wildly satisfying (especially with the chive & dill combo).

As a base for a snack board. It plays so well with everything you throw at it.

Dollop on roasted veggies or baked potatoes. This is so dang delicious and works great as an alternative to sour cream.
Swipe it on a sandwich instead of mayo. This adds protein and a tangy creaminess that takes it to the next level.
