Quick Whipped Cream Alternative with Greek Yogurt
You’re gonna fall in love with this vanilla whipped Greek yogurt topping! It’s the perfect balance of light and creamy, combining the richness of whipping cream with the protein-packed goodness of Greek yogurt. With just four ingredients and 10 minutes of prep, you’ll have a delicious topping for pancakes, waffles, french toast and more!

Whipped Greek yogurt is a little secret weapon in the kitchen! It’s so versatile and adds a light, creamy touch to so many dishes. Whether you’re topping pancakes, French toast (you’ve gotta try my sheet pan version) , or my chocolate baked oatmeal, it’s the perfect way to elevate breakfast or add a little something extra to dessert.

What You’ll Need for this Recipe
Plain Greek Yogurt (I like 2-5%): Greek yogurt makes the perfect creamy base while providing a nice little boost of protein (around 25g per cup). For a thicker consistency, I recommend a higher-fat yogurt, like 5% which is also a bit less tangy
Heavy Cream: I tried this without using any cream but it just kind of fell flat. The cream smooths it out while adding to the richness and also making it more light and fluffy, allowing more air to incorporate while whipping it.
Maple Syrup: I love the subtle flavor and perfect touch of sweetness maple syrup adds.
Vanilla Extract: For that warm, classic flavor that compliments any breakfast or dessert!
Pinch of Salt: Balances the flavors, bringing out the sweetness!
How to Make Whipped Greek Yogurt

Add the Greek yogurt, heavy cream, maple syrup, vanilla extract, and a pinch of salt to a mixing bowl.
Using a hand mixer or stand mixer, whip the mixture on high for about 5 minutes or until it reaches a light, fluffy consistency with a soft peak.

Taste the whipped yogurt and adjust sweetness if needed, adding more maple syrup or vanilla.
Use immediately as a topping or refrigerate for later. This Greek yogurt whipped cream works wonderfully on pancakes, French toast, or baked oatmeal!
Can you Replace Whipping Cream with Greek Yogurt?
Greek yogurt can sometimes replace whipping cream in recipes, but for a light, whipped texture, adding some cream helps maintain that fluffy, airy consistency. By blending Greek yogurt with a bit of cream, you get the best of both worlds—a thick, creamy texture with a protein boost. So, if you’re looking for a fun and nourishing alternative to whipped cream, this is a great option!
What to Serve it With
- French Toast: Try it with our Sheet Pan French toast for a light, creamy topping.
- Pancakes: Perfect on top of our Cottage Cheese Pancakes, Greek Yogurt Pancakes or Pumpkin Pancakes.
- Baked Oatmeal: Adds a creamy, indulgent feel to any baked oatmeal recipe.
- The perfect finsh: Layer it on top of my Chocolate Chia Pudding or my Pumpkin Spice Smoothie for a dessert-like finish

Nutrition Benefits (Nutrition by Addition)
As a dietitian, I love the concept of Nutrition by Addition because it’s about enhancing your meals with ingredients that add nourishment while still celebrating the flavors and textures you love. This whipped yogurt is a great example—it’s creamy, satisfying, and brings that little extra something to your plate.
I will tell you right now, I also love good OG whipped cream. I grew up with a Dad who was whipped cream obsessed so it’s often in the rotation with our favorite family desserts and I will gladly enjoy it.
AND I love playing around with different recipe variations. I might choose this option for a weekday breakfast when I know I want a little extra staying power (thanks to the Greek yogurt protein boost)! And I may opt for traditional whipped cream when I’m craving something a little more decadent. There’s no right or wrong, it’s all about having options to suit your needs in each moment!
Recipe, Kitchen, & Time Saving Hacks
Make It Ahead: Whipped yogurt can be stored in the fridge for up to 2-3 days, so feel free to make a batch ahead of time.
Chill for Thicker Consistency: Remove from the fridge right before serving as it loses its fluffiness when left out at room temperature too long.
